The Battle of Verdun 1916
This battle took place in 1916 and lasted a ten-month ordeal between the German and French armies mainly in the city of Verdun in France. Verdun was significant to the battle because it signified France’s strength and power, resulting in the country to build forts around the area with the purpose of preventing any invading armies from maneuvering it. Germany wanted to destroy the French’s morale by invading Verdun rather than taking over the city. But in the end it backfired and Germany was unsuccessful in their plan.
